My GREAT-Niece recently graduated to the sweetest big girl bed and I told her mama I would love to make a new quilt for her new bed. She sent me a few quilts that caught her eye and we settled on this pin.
I knew it would be easy to complete {which means it would actually get done before she was ready to graduate High School} and I loved the sweet simplicity of it … a classic quilt that could grow with her.

The only other special request was that I incorporate a couple of the colors from the baby quilt I made for my GREAT-Niece.
The bottom solid color, Coral and the binding , Mint were both used on her {Zig-Zag} baby quilt.

Want to make one?
- I picked 5 solids {listed above} and used the full width of the fabric (approx. 45″).
- I determined my desired length and divided by 5. This gave me the width to cut each solid (be sure to add in another 1/2″ – 1″ to that calculation to account for seam allowances).
- Following the technique described in detail on my Basic Baby Quilt tutorial, I pieced the top and squared up the sides.
- I used a traditional “quilt sandwich” and quilted each solid with wonky lines in a matching thread.
- I used Kona in Mint for the binding (which also coordinates with her baby quilt).
